John began his broadcasting career in the early-’70s.
It includes on-air work at several radio stations, including WSSV in Petersburg, VA.; WHAP in Hopewell, VA.; WSFL in New Bern, NC; WQDR in Raleigh, NC.; and WGOE, WRXL, WTVR and WEZS in Richmond, VA.
He has also been a news, program, sports and music director.
Since 1985 John has programmed two Triple A (adult album alternative) stations – WOBR and WVOD – on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
He began contributing stories, briefs, photographs and features (about 2,000 bylines) to the Norfolk, VA.-based Virginian-Pilot newspaper in 1994.
In addition, John has operated an award-winning mobile DJ company on the Outer Banks for four decades.
“Flashback at 11,” which runs Saturday morning, debuted in 2020 on radiofreeouterbanks.com and started airing on The Breeze in 2023.
